In short
Compare six U.S. employers, Gong, Grafana Labs, Ramp, Vercel, Samsara, and CaptivateIQ, using public job postings checked October 1, 2026. The table shows one role and pay example per company, disclosed benefits, and questions about fit. Benefits vary by role and location, so verify the details with each employer. This is a comparison of documented examples rather than a culture ranking.

Six companies to research, not a universal ranking
We checked direct employer job and careers pages on October 1, 2026. The OTE example in each row belongs to one U.S. posting, not every sales job at that company. Benefits are employer descriptions and can depend on role, location, start date, and eligibility.
Our fit notes are editorial questions based on the listed work. They are not employee reviews or proof that one culture is better. We do not claim these employers partner with Tech Sales House or hire its clients.

How to read employer claims
A careers page tells you what an employer says it offers. A job posting tells you what was disclosed for that opening. Neither proves that every worker has the same experience. Ask the hiring team to confirm eligibility and request the written benefits and pay details for your location.
We did not use an employee-reported quota score because no consistent, direct source with a clear sample could cover all six employers. If you read review sites, check the date, role, location, and sample size. A few comments do not establish a company-wide fact.
Why quota attainment changes the OTE story
OTE is target cash at quota, not actual earnings. Two jobs can show the same OTE but have very different base pay, territories, lead flow, ramp, and quota difficulty. A high variable share puts more cash at risk when results fall short.
Ask what percentage of fully ramped people in the same role and segment reached quota in the last full year. Ask how many were included and whether the employer changed the goal or territory. Company-wide attainment can hide large differences between teams.
Company-by-company fit notes
Gong may be worth researching for experienced software sellers who want enterprise closing work. Its sampled role is not an entry job. Ask about territory quality, pipeline sources, ramp, and how often the team reaches quota.
Grafana Labs may fit sellers with infrastructure knowledge who can work across a remote territory. Remote does not remove travel or time-zone needs. Ask how acquisition accounts are chosen and what technical support joins a deal.
Ramp may interest strategic sellers who are comfortable with a larger variable share. The sampled San Francisco role lists a 45/55 pay split. Ask what pay looks like during ramp and how much pipeline the AE must create.
Vercel gives an early-career BDR example in developer tools. Its San Francisco range should not be applied to Austin or New York without checking. Ask how mentorship works, what a qualified opportunity means, and which office rule applies.
Samsara may fit a technical seller interested in physical operations and connected products. The sampled specialist role is different from a general AE job. Ask how many account teams one specialist supports and how shared results affect pay.
CaptivateIQ may interest an experienced enterprise seller who understands complex compensation talks. Its sampled U.S. AE posting lists a $300,000 OTE, but location and candidate details matter. Ask which accounts, travel, and benefit rules apply.
A practical company comparison checklist
Compare the manager, role, product, buyer, territory, base pay, variable plan, and location before the brand name. Ask how training works and what proof the hiring team wants. Check whether the product solves a problem you can learn and explain honestly.
Get the written pay plan. Confirm quota, attainment, ramp, lead sources, account rules, commission timing, and clawbacks. Then confirm health coverage, retirement, time off, equity eligibility, and when each benefit starts.
For more pay examples, visit the cross-role OTE hub. You can also compare BDR and SDR postings, account executive postings, and sales engineering postings.
What career changers should do next
Choose a role before choosing a company list. Read ten current postings at the level you can support with real evidence. Mark the repeated skills, location limits, and experience requirements. Then build a resume and interview stories around work you actually did.
A famous employer is not automatically the right first move. A smaller company with clear training and a realistic quota may fit better. Our guide to getting into tech sales gives a practical starting path.
