In short
Ten U.S. account executive (AE) postings checked October 1, 2026 listed annual cash on-target earnings (OTE) up to an employer-estimated $425,000. Most are enterprise or strategic roles for experienced closers. The table links each job and location. This selected sample is not a national pay ranking, and OTE depends on meeting targets.

10 sampled U.S. account executive postings
We ordered the table by the upper end of posted OTE. Ties are not precise ranks, and the upper number is not a promised offer. Annual base says Not stated when the posting did not give a separate annual base figure. Equity and benefits are outside cash OTE.

How we selected these account executive examples
We checked public direct-employer U.S. postings on October 1, 2026. Each row disclosed annual OTE in U.S. dollars. We did not calculate OTE from salary-only figures or include equity in cash OTE.
This is a focused sample of transparent, high-OTE enterprise and strategic postings, including Scribe's estimated OTE. It is not a list of the highest-paying AE jobs in America. It does not represent commercial AE pay, every role at these employers, or the offers a reader could receive.
Why role segment changes the comparison
Most roles here sell to enterprise or strategic accounts. These deals can involve more stakeholders, larger contracts, longer reviews, security checks, and careful account plans. Employers often ask for direct experience with complex closing cycles.
A commercial AE may work with smaller customers and shorter sales cycles. That does not make the work easy or less useful. It means the quota, deal size, sales cycle, and expected proof differ. Our SDR, BDR, and AE guide explains the basic role split.
Do not assume an SDR role leads to one of these jobs on a fixed schedule. Openings, performance, skills, product knowledge, and prior closing results all matter. An experienced seller may enter at AE level, while a career changer may need a different first role based on their evidence.
How to compare AE OTE and quota
First ask for the base and variable split. Ramp disclosed a 45/55 split in its sampled posting, which means variable pay is a large part of target cash. Other postings may use a different mix. Ask for the written plan rather than assuming the same split.
Ask what share of the same team hit quota in the last full year, how many reps were fully ramped, and whether the number includes new hires. Ask about average deal size, sales cycle, territory, account list, lead support, and what happens if a customer cancels.
Location and segment matter too. A regional role may require local customer knowledge or travel. Remote U.S. can still have state limits. A nationwide range may change by city and level. Treat the posting as the start of due diligence.
What career changers should take from this list
The large OTE figures should not pull you toward a role that does not match your proof. Enterprise AE jobs commonly ask for closing history, complex account work, and results with a related buyer or product. Read every requirement before applying.
Choose the role level that fits what you have actually done. Build proof around discovery, negotiation, account planning, business judgment, or customer work when those skills are real. Our guide to getting into tech sales shows how to translate experience without inflating it.
Questions to ask the hiring team
Ask what the quota is, how it was set, and how many fully ramped peers reached it. Ask what percentage of the pipeline you must create, how accounts are assigned, and what support comes from marketing, SDRs, solutions engineers, and managers.
Ask how long ramp lasts, what you must achieve during it, and whether pay protection exists. Learn how renewals, expansions, multi-year deals, and cancellations affect commission. These answers make the OTE more useful than the headline number alone.
